The Queens Head at Fyfield in Essex is a delightful, privately owned freehouse serving a great gastro style menu. The country pub is set in beautiful countryside just off Ongar road 3 miles north of Chipping Ongar in Essex. The real ale meets modern day cusine pubs is set in an eighteenth century pub which retains a wealth of original features with a heavily oak-beamed lounge bar and restaurant, large inglenook fireplaces. At the side of the pub are seating for people who want to watch the world go by whilst in the rear is car parking and a beautiful beer garden which is fenced off from a river which runs on two sides. Relax and soak up the sun whilst listening to the ducks playing under the magestic weeping willow. The Owners of the Queens Head have transformed this local country pub from an old style pub to one which now servers excellent gastro style meals, fine wines, champagnes and cognacs along side real ales.

The Queens Head serves one of the largest ranges of real ales in Essex and one only has to look behind the bar to see the story of many ales and the breweries from where they came. Along side these are the usual stocks of lagers and soft drinks and an amazing lager which is served chilled through a pump encrusted in ice!

The Queens head can seat around 45 people and offer a gastro menu cooked fresh in the kitchen. To see a sample menu please select Dining above. The menu changes throughout the year to cater for the fresh produce currently in season at that time but a typical menu can provide anything from Roast quail on garlic crouton with red wine jus to a Home made steak and kidney pie with short crust pastry. To help wash down your food and entice your pallet the Queens Head also has a large selection of fine wines, champagnes and cognacs, most of which can be seen by selecting Wine List from the menu above. The dining\bar area is ideal for parties of any size from 2 to 22 people.

If you don't fancy eating then we have one of the largest selections of fine wines, champagnes and real ales in Essex. We feature in The Good Pub & Good Beer Guides for 2006 and as well as the main food menu we also offer bar snacks and a lighter menu from Monday to Saturday in the lunch hours for those who prefer a lighter bite.

Unfortunately children under 14 years old aren't allowed in the bar or restaurant but they're more than welcome to eat their meal in the large beer garden where they can sit under the large willow tree and watch the passing ducks in the river from behind the picket fenced area.

The Queens Head child free bar and restaurant makes a relaxing atmosphere, which is somewhat unusual and a breath of fresh air in a day when chain pubs and restaurants are taking over our countryside with noisy atmospheres and cheap microwaved food just for children.
